UPDATE:FIGURED OUT my pitman arm, draglink, ps gear,(pics)

Post by bigred72 »

So i really need your help! I need an alignment but cant until I replace my way bent pitman arm.
IMG_20110 201_155120_1.jpg
the P.O. took a grinder to it and notched it and its bent bad :? :hmm: the number on the pitman arm is C7TA-3590-AA. in the tech section the closest one is c7tz-3590. Also cant replaced the pitman arm until i know what year my PS gear is
IMG_20110201_154726_1.jpg
the # on it is c5-ar-3580-a. Are the steering gear shafts the same on all 67-79 ps.gears? And last but not least.. what the heck draglink and tie rod setup is my truck from. maybe its stock but i cant find a single one that matches it. close but not the same. my tie rod end is on the p-side and the draglink attaches to the pitman arm from the top, not the bottom like most.

sorry for the long explanation but i have no idea what the PO has changed. I know you guys can help so thanks in advance.

Re: need help with the ID of my draglink, ps gear, ect

this looks like what you have. i think it is the same as i have on mine. http://www.fordification.com/tech/image ... ront06.jpg

i think the steering box should have a tag on top of it under one of the bolts. my pitman arm doesnt look like that. mine is almost completely straight. but it does have a slight down angle to it. my box is also set forward a little more. and my pitman arm points backwards.

Thanks Fordman. ive seen the one you linked before. it has a different end on the drag link that attaches to the pitman arm. unfortunately the ps gear has no tag.

So after a couple weeks of :hw: :hw: :hw: the solution to my problems were in the back yard at my buddies house :hd: :woohoo: . My friend is a mud bog racer and has countless ford parts, so he gave me a tie rod, drag link and pitman arm from a 78-79 bronco/f150. Im happy to tell ya the pitman arm fit perfectly. i guess the P.O. used the steering gear from that year. Here are a couple pics of what i picked up and another pic of my mangled pitman arm next to one from a '70 2wd w/ manual steering.
