You can use any 302. It does not have to come out of a truck or a manual trans.

what I thought...ty for the clarification...while on the subject, will a 351W bolt right up or?
I have an opportunity on a 302 from a 69 Mustang locally for 450 with intake and Holley carb...going to go check it this weekend. It may be a good deal for 400.00 if I can verify its a good one...PO states it was running when removed a couple years back but you know how that goes... :? What should I look for on this engine to make sure it is good?

No real way to tell other than looking for obvious faults if its just sitting in a garage. You can try to rotate the engine to see whether or not it is stuck. But other than hearing and seeing the engine run its pretty much a matter of visual inspection and take your chances with your money. BTW.... branding a 302 as a mustang engine is a good sales pitch.....but really cant be proven. For instance.....I could temporarily install the 360 out of my truck into a mustang body without even hooking it up......and then honestly claim that I pulled the engine from a mustang. So be careful.....There are a lot more engines sold that arent what they are suposed to be than there are those that are honest deals.
Find 'em....Buy 'em....Fix 'em.....Drive 'em....Love 'em

Yes I agree..been researching crate motors online and Powertrain Products seem to have good reviews...I am leaning towards
a crate engine for the warranty and years of trouble free service. I just dont want to buy myself another headache! lol

Yes, the 351W will drop right in and bolt right up to what you have.

:yt: but you will have to redo some exhaust work because the 351w is taller and puts the heads higher.
