Tie Rod Ends
Advance Auto has this tie rod end listed for a 4WD, but nothing for a 2WD. Were the same tie rod ends used on both?

According to my Carquest site 2wd and 4wd are different.
I didn't have the year so i guessed at '69 judging by your picture.

Re: Tie Rod Ends
they are probably different because the 4wd has a axle under it and the 2wd just has i beams and spindles. althought the 4wd axle has spindles they are probably different because it is eithe r a dana 44 or dana 60 front axle in these trucks. depending on F100 d44 and F250 d60.
oh and how can you search the carquest website fo rparts. i have never figured that out.

We have web link at work so we can look up and order parts.fordman wrote:oh and how can you search the carquest website fo rparts. i have never figured that out.
I tried to look up your exhaust parts but they didn't go back that far.
If you call them they might be able to go through some books .

Re: Tie Rod Ends
The price for the drag link, inner and outer tie rod ends (Moog) is about $250. Is that excessive? Is it usually best to replace all three at the same time?
(I have lot of play in the steering and I doubt the tie rod ends on my 40 year old truck (140K miles) have ever been replaced.

Check the steering coupler also if your steering is real sloppy. Have someone wiggle the steering wheel back and forth while you crawl around and research the slop.

Re: Tie Rod Ends
Autozone's website shows them for a total of $162.
I 2ond diagnosing it first though, it may just be the rag joint. You don't want to throw parts at it just for giggles unless you have money burning a hole in your pocket.
