the only mods to that column i can think of is the wiring. some where in the electrical section a couple of guys have layed out the wiring swap colors for those columns to our trucks. what mods were you thinking of?
1971 F-100 240 straight six, 3 on the tree (parted out)
1972 F-100 302 auto trans, pwr steering, pwr brakes (under construction)

well for one thing that is confusing me a bit is there is the regular wiring harness then there is a another harness down torwards the bottom of the column that has a trailor wiring harness end on it and i have no idea why that is there i will post some pics of it in alittle bit to show what i am talking about.

that second harness goes to the neutrual saftey switch (NSS). for a manual transmission that will just have a looped plug on it. for an automatic trasnmission it will hook into you exsisting automatic transmission wiring harness. if your truck was factory manual you will have to wire the nss into you truck some how.
ok thanks for explaining what that second harness is for. by any chance is there a thread that may have that topic b/c my truck was a manual and i have decided to switch it to a auto. when i bought the new cab for my truck it cab from a auto tranny truck and still had the entire cab harness in it would those hook up be on the cab harness

ok i just went down and pulled the auto cab harness out and found the spot in the harness where the nss plugs in.

ye si wasn't thinkign earlier. just plug the column into the place where it has the loop plug at. duh. its when you go from auto to manual that you have to make the new loop to bypass the nss on the column. you found it so you got it figured out it sounds like.
yeah i did thanks for pointing me in the right direction Fordman, you always seem to have the answer that i need that helps me get things figured out
