72 heavy 250 to 68 light 250 disc swap

Post by bike5087 »

Hi all -

I just want to make sure I get what I need- so I thought I'd throw this out to all you experts. I have a light (6100gvw) 68 f250. About an hours drive from me is a 72 donor with discs that I want to swap. I am assuming this 72 has a heavier gvw because it was a camper special. Do you think I can swap just the spindles, etc? Or do I need to get the whole front end?

Just the spindles out is all you should need. I just did this on my 67, spindles when right up to the old I-beams no problem.

read this first. read both pages and check the king pin diameters. that will tell you what parts to get. http://www.fordification.com/discbrakes01.htm

Also, never assume the GVWR of a truck just because it has an option package. The camper Specials came in light weight and heavyweight configurations, the person ordering the truck made that call, it was not standard. Hawkrod

Thank you all for your quick response - I ended up just getting the whole rolling chassis from the donor. Frame, suspension, brakes, etc. Any ideas on how to hook the vacuum lines needed for the power brake booster? Also - I will end up having a Dana 60 rear axle leftover if any one needs one.

I think I will also have four 16.5" wheels with dogdishes, I will take photos and post in the proper forum.
