Are the fine grooves important on the brake plate?

Post by robroy »

Good morning,

This weekend I was sandblasting some of my disc brake parts and noticed that fine grooves had been machined in to the four pads that (I think) contact the spindle--here's a photo of the pads on the part I'm talking about:

My sandblaster took the fine grooves right off of several of the pads before I realized that they may have been machined on there for a reason!

Does anybody know if the fine, grooved texture on those four pads is important to retain? Must I take my part to the machine shop now to have them re-textured?

Thanks very much!

Just cutting bit marks. Don't worry about it.

Hello Greg, thanks for your reply.

So these marks are left over from the machine used to make this brake part?

Thanks!

Yes, just machining marks...nothing to even be remotely concerned about.

Thanks for the confirmation Keith! I'll know to blow them away with my sandblaster without thinking twice next time. -Robroy
