When my 360 is cool the oil light stays off, but after engine gets hot, the oil light comes on at idle speed. Sometimes it will not go off until I have built up a few rpms. In order to put new oil pump on, the engine will have to be removed. So if I could find a good proven additive, I will put it in and worry about changing oil pump later. Any Suggestion?

my 351w in my ltd does that what weight of oil are you using??

WOOOT!! i passed my mechanics classes. Now working as a mechanic and waiting to go for my ASE certifications.
my 1st suggestion is to get aftermarket oil pressure gauge- i prefer the mechanical type--plumb it in and see what u have for a reading.
i look for a steady needle
high pressure reading are not really the thing you are looking for--steady pressure is-- it will be low after warm up--i ain't really an fe guy but a steady needle is what i look for except with ihc's-they flucuate at idle but hold steady at anything above--302 and 351 hold 20 pretty good at idle and 40-50 at run rpm
as far as additives go-there are 2 i will swear by
MOA by bg products for slickery
restore for getting additional miles from worn engines
lucas is ok for increasing viscosity but has a low friction factor(bearing burn)

Also, if you yank the engine to do the pan (which is the best way to do it) make sure you replace the old rope rear main seal with a new two-piece rubber rear main. Toss a new converter seal in while you're at it.

Bobby is right, but it made me laugh due to the "well, while i'm here" factor/syndrome
if ya got 'er out u just as well rebuild it
just ask Tony(wt4speed)

That is a good way to tell if the pump is going bad or if you have worn bearings, if the bearing clearance is too big the heavier oil will bring your pressure back.

There is no magic snake oil that will cure a mechanical problem. I used power punch once and became an absoutle believer in power punch. I have ran it in in gearboxes and old engines and used properly it is a good addititve. I dumped a quart in a cleavend that was using so much oil I could hardly get to the next town, and I was on a bussiness trip. The guy told me to pour it in slow with engine ideling. What a differance it made. The whole engine changed. Lifters quited down, engine gained about 300 rpm. Oil consumtion was cut at least in half. This engine didnt really have any problems other than leaks but it I noticed a deffinate improvement after the power punch.
I have never tried it but I have also heard good things about restore and slick 50.
I think I will try the power punch as a beginner and if that does not work....When I pull the engine, I will just overhaul the sucker.
Got to get my power steering on first.
Thanks for all the input.
