My first car was a '72 F250 with a 300 CID straight six and Three on the Tree. After learning to keep my eye on the road by crashing it through a ditch and fence one morning (I was lucky and walked away from that), I found another '72 F250 for sale in Santa Cruz--this is the one I own today (shown in the photos).
My first truck (crashed) had "#40" painted on the doors--it had belonged to a school district long ago and was presumably number forty in their fleet. So that's what I called the truck. Following in this tradition, I called my second F250 (my current project) Number Fifty (#50).
#50 has a 360 with a 4 speed transmission. The engine's bottom end is shot so I'm currently putting a new motor in it; I'm planning on a 390 built to run in the 350-400HP range.
It's nice to see that there are so many other people interested in '67 to '72 Fords! Since these trucks don't seem to be as popular to restore or hot rod as cars like Corvettes and Mustangs, most people don't seem to "get it" when I tell them what I'm working on. Maybe others here have had this experience also.
I'll have lots of questions about this upcoming engine swap to ask here, and I've been enjoying reading articles and looking through the photo gallery! I'll also be sure to make a gallery entry of my own with lots of photos of the engine swap project.
