Robroy Gregg's 1972 F250 Custom, 360, 4SPD.
Hello!
My first car was a '72 F250 with a 300 CID straight six and Three on the Tree. After learning to keep my eye on the road by crashing it through a ditch and fence one morning (I was lucky and walked away from that), I found another '72 F250 for sale in Santa Cruz--this is the one I own today (shown in the photos).
My first truck (crashed) had "#40" painted on the doors--it had belonged to a school district long ago and was presumably number forty in their fleet. So that's what I called the truck. Following in this tradition, I called my second F250 (my current project) Number Fifty (#50).
#50 has a 360 with a 4 speed transmission. The engine's bottom end is shot so I'm currently putting a new motor in it; I'm planning on a 390 built to run in the 350-400HP range.
It's nice to see that there are so many other people interested in '67 to '72 Fords! Since these trucks don't seem to be as popular to restore or hot rod as cars like Corvettes and Mustangs, most people don't seem to "get it" when I tell them what I'm working on. Maybe others here have had this experience also.
I'll have lots of questions about this upcoming engine swap to ask here, and I've been enjoying reading articles and looking through the photo gallery! I'll also be sure to make a gallery entry of my own with lots of photos of the engine swap project.

Welcome from Nebraska, I get looks to when I tell people what I am trying to restore. Nice thing is that since they are not as popular to restore parts are a little easier to find.

Hi Smclaren! I'm indeed a descendent of Rob Roy MacGregor.smclaren wrote:G'day Robroy Gregg, from Australia !!!
Any relation to Rob Roy MacGregor ????
MacGregor was changed to Gregg (and Bowman) when the clan was asked to leave Scotland, and my grandpa was the first in my family to come to America. EDIT (years later): I got this part wrong! I believe it was my great, great grandpa who first arrived in Texas, from Scotland.
For most of my life people had never heard of my name, but the "Robroy" movie made it popular a few years back--now people think I'm joking when I introduce myself!
Thanks to everybody for all the neat responses to my post!

welcome from nebraska i hear you on the no one understands part.
I will say that ive had several old people wave at me and tell me nice truck.
Its also fun to pull up next a "rice ball powered " car that some one thinks is cool cause it sounds like someone farting in a can, and when the light hits green leave them in the dust.
Nothing more satisifing than a rusty beat up old truck beating one of thost so called racers wannabes

I don't really care about brands Chevy Ford Dodge ...as long as it doesn't sound like two old dudes farting in a coffee can.

Thanks! The cat, "Royal," doesn't necessarily eat a lot, although he's in check with the vet since those types of cats tend to get large. Do I eat a lot? Probably too much! But I'm also in check with the vet.basketcase0302 wrote: I like the watch cat! Eat a lot?

Does the truck eat a lot? If I remember correctly, it got around 15 miles per gallon with its stock 360 (in poor repair). After the engine swap it will undoubtedly eat more--more like 10 miles per gallon.
