Another new guy from Idaho

Just wanted to say hello and thanks for the very informative forum. I live between Lewiston and Orofino Idaho in the Clearwater Drainage. I've got an old 69 F100 that isn't running now and a friend just gave me a 1970 F250 Highboy with a bent fender and smashed grill.

My grand daughters and I are going to change out the grill and fender from the F100 to the 3/4 ton this weekend. Your site is loaded with info that will help us. I learned a bunch with my initial reading and look forward to finishing off the old Ford Pickup. It has 86,000 original miles on it and runs like a top. I'm planning on using it to pull my 22 foot camper to the woods this summer.

I live on a hillside with a gravel road coming into the house and was never able to get my camper up to the house with the little 2 wheel drive pickup, it would just spin out. I always had to borrow a friends four wheel drive to get it parked at the house and now I'll be able to pull it into my driveway.

Here's a couple of pix of the part of Idaho I live in. It's four wheel drive country for sure. Most of my running around is done with a little Suzuki Samari that gets pretty good gas mileage in this day and age.

I like to hunt and fish and especially like to call coyotes and varmint hunt. I try to spend as much time in these beautiful woods as I can and love to take pictures.

Here's my old Ford F100 buried under the snow this winter.



This is the Clearwater River Canyon and I live about two miles from where this was taken.



I'm looking forward to finding out more about my old truck on this fine forum.

Welcome from Ohio! That '69 F100 doesn't look that bad from the picture. Enjoy that Highboy, though. I got a '69 Highboy recently and man is it a beast. RedneckTexan is 100% right about them. Let's see some pics of it!

Thanks for the welcome. My grand daughters and I took the grill and bumper and passenger front fender off the 69 yesterday and it's now on the 70 Highboy. I'll post some pix tomorrow.

It was no problem except for the occasional rusted solid bolt that either a grinder or sawsall took care of. Thank goodness for the girls help twisting wrenches and getting smaller hands in places I simply couldn't reach into like the bolt that goes in by the door panel.

The 69 two wheel drive with the little six cylinder just didn't have enough umph to pull my camper up my driveway without spinning out and the new 3/4 ton four wheel drive should do that with no problems. Now I have to junk out the half ton. Perhaps I'll make a trailer out of the bed and back frame.

Well here's the 69 half ton two wheel drive donor truck missing the front grill an passenger fender. It went on the 70 four wheel drive.



Here's the 70 four wheel drive with the new fender and grill.





It's got brand new tires and rims and runs like a top. It was parked since 96. It's got a few dings and small dents, but it's not to bad. I'll use it to pull my camper to the woods for hunting season and haul some gravel for the driveway. I've still got to empty the gas tank of old gas and put on some outside mirrors.

That's a good idea itsmy. I was thinking about changing the cabs out originally, but don't have a hoist and it looked like a much bigger job than I could tackle. I'll put an add for the parts I have left over when I finish up with the 70 3/4 ton. I was thinking about putting in a straight axle and making a trailer out of the back part of the old 69.

Both have four speed tranny's and I believe both have the Dana 60 rear end but I"m not sure about that.

I have a 300 six with new rings, cam and crank that I bought that needs put together I was going to put into the half ton, but when I came across the four wheel drive it works better for what I need a pickup for.

There's more body work needs done on the four wheel drive, but I don't know how much I really want to do. I just want a good runner that I can pull my camper to the woods with and the boat to the lake or river. It won't get driven a lot, especially with the price of gas going where it is.

I've got a couple little Suzuki Samari's that I use for hunting rigs and at near 30 mpg they work fine for that chore. One of those is getting a 4.3 liter V6 and the four speed overdrive transmission out of a Chev Astro van this summer for a little more umph. It's in the shop now where I'm doing a springover conversion on the axles.
