Quick Question

Post by blue68 »

Is the bell housing bolt pattern the same on a C4 than a AOD? If so, couldnt you use this to put an AOD in an FE??

Bellhousing goes by engine family, not transmission type. AOD won't fit an FE without an adapter.

FE's have their own unique bell pattern.
Y blocks have their own pattern.
small block Fords (289/302/351W) & the small and big 6's share the same bell pattern.
335 series (351C, 351M/400) and 385 series (429/460) share the same bell pattern.
IIRC, 351C can be either big-block or small block patterns- best to check.

Ford had its own way of doing things, & sometimes its a real PITA!

Ok, to answer your question: The AOD bell is not removable. It's like a C6 in that way. It's a cast part of the case.
Here is the adaptor you need: http://www.transmissionadapters.com/ford_fe.htm
Install instructions: http://www.transmissionadapters.com/For ... nstall.htm
Cost is $750, though...

Well, they all have the small block bellhousing bolt pattern.
