It is a gauge that you install to tell wether or not if the car is charging or discharging. Every car has one but I just want to put another one in my truck. It is a volt gauge. Not amp.

Hook the red wire up to the 12v ignition switch and the other to a ground. Pretty much any 12v wire would give you system voltage. However, you want an ignition-switched wire so the gauge powers on when the keys are turned to the ON position.

For the lights run the wire(s) to a dash light source (ie. ashtray light) and the black to ground. Now they dim with the headlamp switch.

It's that easy. :D

I don't recall specifically...did you try the manufacturer's website? Normally they'll have installation instructions there.

Don't hook it up the guage should still read okay. I bet S is the light terminal. Make the guage work first then see if S is jumped to + that the light works.

That is weird then S for Sense ? But a voltmeter takes the full voltage across it but almost no current so Sense does not make sense.

That's still a very common voltmeter sold everywhere. From the manufacturer's website:

The lighting connection is obvious, so apparently the 'S' isn't needed. Maybe it's for calibration? Regardless, if you hook up the two wires as indicated and the lighting wire, you're all set.
