1971 F250 CAMPER SPECIAL HEADLIGHT ISSUE

Post by micoole »

Hi All,
I am hoping someone can help me.
I have a 1971 F250 Camper Special Sport Custom.
Its my daily driver and all was well with the lights until a few days ago when I installed one of those crappy led tail lights from Amazon.

today, while driving, the dash lights starting flickering on and off, and the relay by the glovebox - which identifies as Marker Lamp Relay - that comes with Camper Specials - was also clicking off and on pretty fast...

Pretty soon after that I lost the rear lights, and the relay trips constantly when I turn the lights on... click click click... constantly.
I think the issue started with the LEDs overheating the wiring system.
I took the LED lights out. Went back to stock and wish I never messed with them in the first place.

I read a few of these forums and people say that is it typically the light switch getting damaged because of the draw- so I replaced it. Clicking continues at the Marker Lamp Relay.

Does anyone know how to resolve this ??
This is literally driving me insane.

I would replace the marker lamp relay and flasher relay with modern ones, and check all grounds to start.

I know they aren't cheap, but you might find my project thread of interest. toward the end.
