Front Cab Mounts

Post by marvin2 »

I'm the idiot that bought LMC cab mounts without doing any research. Just as others have posted, the LMC mounts are garbage. Their a thinner metal (same gauge as floor pans) and do not fit worth a crap. I bought these about 2 years ago and they have sat in my garage until I started metal work on my cab recently.

I can see where these mounts will likely work with some major cutting / welding modification. Have others been able to get these mounts to work?

I know (now) that DC has a great set of mounts...I'm just trying to avoid spending another $200 if at all possible. I may be worth just pulling the plug and ordering them.

Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks!

I don't doubt that at all. Had I known then what I know now, I would have bought DC mounts without question.

Does anyone have pics of LMC mounts installed?

I'm probably answering my own question, I just want to know if there is any hope for my current mounts.

I originally bought the LMC's too trying to save a buck...bought the Dennis Carpenters later on. Again, just my opinion.

Went with the DC's. I'd go ahead and shell out the extra cash, this is an important piece of your build! No sense trying to fix garbage, that's why I stay away from LMC at all costs.

Hey guys...pulling up my older thread on this

I have a couple of questions regarding the DC mounts:

1. How have others welded these in (drilled and spot welds like stock, or seam welded along the perimeter)...and does it matter? My mounts don't fit perfectly; they either flush to the firewall and give me gaps to deal with at the floor board or vice versa.

2. How have you guys drilled the hole for the bolt to the frame...I'm not sure I can get a metal bit that big. Maybe a step down bit?

Thanks guys!

One of the smartest things I've seen was somebody drilling through and using bolts/nuts to pull them flush before welding. I don't think it matters whether u plug weld or lap weld. For the hole, a step bit or hole saw will do the job.

I drilled holes and spot welded my mounts. You can use bolts, or cleco fasteners to hold it down. I would wait until you have the cab back on the frame to drill your hole, that way you know everything is lined up. You can use whatever bit you'd like. I would use a smaller bit as a pilot hole, then go with a bigger bit.

Hi marvin2. :hi: I hope you took those LMC cab mounts and threw them in the scrape pile and got you some DC cab mounts. After my problems with LMC sheet metal. I buy all my sheet metal from DC.
