BobbyFord Short Bed

Post by BobbyFord »

I'm finally ready to get back on my truck. I had a few setbacks but I'm ready to get after it. Rather than clog the website with a new thread for each aspect of my project, I decided to consolidate everything right here.
Here are some past threads:
Mustang Fuel Tank Install: http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... hp?t=46022
460 Engine Build: http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... &sk=t&sd=a
Mini-Tubs (tub widening): http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... p?p=549267
Axle Flip & C-Notch (my truck also has black powdercoated DJM lowering beams): http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... &sk=t&sd=a
3G alternator conversion: https://www.fordification.com/forum/vie ... hp?t=82359
I've already bought a '69 Mustang shaker hood scoop but it is on backorder until October and I will include that in this project thread. It will require that I build an offset aircleaner to compensate for the engine offset.

Very soon I'll be adding a disc brake install. I have 1977 spindles and calipers. I'm going to get the calipers zinc plated and rebuild them. I already have most of the parts.
Because of the tall 460 valve covers, I decided to go with an aftermarket 8", dual-diaphragm brake booster, for clearance. I'll also install an aftermarket master cyl. and aftermarket proportioning valve. I'll bend my own hard lines. I might go with stainless. While I have the front end apart (again), I have new complete Moog steering linkage with '77 tie-rod ends, urethane radius arm bushings and new KYB Gas-a-just shocks.

Im interested in seeing your hood scoop in action. I have been throwing around the idea of getting my spare hood and putting a shaker in it or the torino style scoop and switching hoods back and forth if i like it or not.

Regarding more clearance under the hood for the brake booster have you considered using a hydroboost?
The hydroboost gives more braking pressure and is smaller in diameter than a vacuum booster.

If you're going to use a "performance" grind cam your vacuum will be reduced, do you plan on having a vacuum pump?

Go fast trucks need stop fast brakes.

I have a healthy cam. I already have a drum brake booster on it and it clears the tall 460 valve covers, and seems to provide ample assist. It appears to be a 9" booster. I have about an inch of clearance from the valve cover. It is the drum brake fade that I'm trying to eliminate.
The stock 1977 disc brake booster is an 11 or 12 inch single diaphragm booster and will hit the valve cover. The aftermarket 8" dual diaphragm booster has more assist than the larger 1977 single diaphragm booster.

"The aftermarket 8" dual diaphragm booster"
^Who is that made by?

I'm about 95% sure that I'll go hydroboost, but info on other options could change that.

Still waiting for a few parts for my disc brake install. One of my dust shields was damaged but I got the Ford part number and found an NOS one. I dropped my calipers off at the plater to get yellow zinc plated and dropped my spindles off at the powdercoater for some semi-gloss black powder paint. I have new inner & outer Bower/BCA bearings, National grease seals, Wagner pads, Wagner caliper hoses and the '77 Moog king pin set is ordered. I'm getting itchy. :)

Looks real good, but I don't know if I would go as far as sexy.
