I'm painting a truck (69 F100) for the first time and have a few questions for the body work guys...
1 - What is difference/benefit of the high dollar HVLP guns vs. the low end guns. It looks like you can spend 25 - 200 or so and I can't tell the difference between them. I'm leaning towards a hot rod flatz paint. http://www.tcpglobal.com/Customshop/ksflatz.aspx
2 - What advice can anyone offer to stop the rust in the seam of the running down the bed. I've sand blasted it out and gone over it with a wire brush. It was fairly bad. There's a few places where it has rusted through (small holes). I'm planning to use rust encapsulator, but want to do anything else I can to prevent it from showing up again.
3 - What is the sealer material / filler stuff in the rain gutter? Also seems to have been in the bed seam at one point.
Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer

Re: HVLP paint gun
when buying something like this....I go with the "middle of the road" not the cheapest nor the most Xpensive.....I bought this gun a while back
http://www.eastwood.com/paint-equipment ... t-gun.html it doesn't make you an instant painter, but it's a nice gun for the price. I have a few cheap one's that do well for primer, etc
Your bed seam is normal to most of ours and plenty of guys have used various methods to fix. From seperating the upper and lower to welding it solid(look in the project threads...TylerB & Fopar come to mind)but, remember rust don't sleep and quick fixes won't work Encapsulator will only slow it down

Re: HVLP paint gun
I used a set of finish line 3 guns. The painter makes the paint work as much as the gun. I am an amateur, so check out my pictures.
Check out my build. http://s1088.photobucket.com/albums/i336/MyF100/

If I weld the seam, will that keep it from rusting through?

Re: HVLP paint gun
I have 3 guns. A primer gun, a finish gun and a HF cheapo gun. I use the HF gun to spray POR-15 and primer/surfacer. I use the primer gun for final primer and sealer and the finish gun for topcoat. I like to use the disposable paint cups with HF gun because the POR-15 is a real pain to clean up. I'm on my 3rd HF gun in a year and a half because the POR-15 will ruin them quickly. I bought a Devilbiss 2 gun set (primer and finish guns) and there's a huge difference in the control and feel vs the cheap gun.
