Newbie From Southside Chicago

Post by 68bumps »

Hi! I've been checking out your site for a couple weeks now and finding a lot of helpful information. I'm glad to find a site that's narrowed down to the body style of my truck.

About 4 weeks ago my dad took me to look at a 68 f100 shortbed with a 360?(block says 352, previous owner says 352 block with 390 heads and crank = 360. is this true?), we brought it home a couple days later and have been planning what to do with it since. This is my first vehicle and we'll be fixing it up over the next year before i get my licence. The rear has been lowered 6" +/- (by flipping the spring) and the front is at stock height (previous owner put new springs on because the guy before him had cut the originals and it would not align).

I'm planning on putting DJM dream beams on the front and flipping the spring on the back and lowering it with djm kit. I'm also possibly going to take out the 360 and 3 speed manual and replace it with a 302 with a 5 speed manual from a late 80's early 90's mustang.

Thanks for such a great source of information, I'm sure i'll be learning a lot from this site.

The bore of a 352 if married with the stroke of a 390 would yield 381 cubic inches. You may want to reconsider keeping this set up and hot rodding it versus the small motor, no replacement for displacement! An aluminum intake and a set of headers really knock the weight off these engines and puts them in street fighting trim.

FE Family
Bore Stroke
3.30" 3.50" 3.78" 3.98"
4.00" 332 352 381 400
4.05" 340 360 390 410
4.13" 354 375 406 428
4.23" 371 393 427 447

Only the 332, 352, 360, 390, 406, 410, 427 & 428 were actual engines built by Ford in the chart, the rest are just numbers if those combinations were used. Hope this helps you out. Enjoy your truck.
