4x4 lift and draglink questions

Post by roachrider »

While I'm rebuilding the front axle, I decided to get my front springs attended to. They are sagging so there is only about 3/4" between the bumpstop and the axle when the truck is unloaded.

I'm buying a set of around 2" lift springs from a guy to stick under the front end.

Two questions. First, can I use the stock draglink? It's only a two or so inch lift, so it's won't change the angle much. I've got to have the truck back on the road by the 19th so if I'm going to need a new one, I have to order it now or wait to put the new springs in.

Second, I can see where the steering arm on the knuckle is hitting the shock. Once I lift it back up to stock height or higher, that should correct it so that under a full right turn, the arm can't quite reach the shock anymore, correct?

Here's a pic of how it is now.

Aaron even after the Skyjacker 4in lift and the D60 under mine with the PS conversion Under a full right hand turn it still barely touched the shock body. You can bring the adjuster stop on the axle out a hair so they don't hit eachother. Or get a flattop knuckle for the passanger side and do a crossover setup but then you run into the fact you need enough lift that the crossover draglink dosent get squashed between the frame and the spring under a hard impact which I still have problems with. Also with the crossover on a leaf sprung truck your pitman arm rides right above the leaf pack.

Nice Truck Aaron,
I have 67 f250 High boy, you know that there are only 7624 of those ?
I have a question for you, these trucks came w/ a factory 6" lift, the springs you got are 2" higher ie 8" lift or just 2" ?

Highboys come with a 4in block out back thus a 4in lift. In all reality this is just the standard height for a 67-77.5 4x4 F250. So I would think that any lift that you state you have would be over the stock ride height and not adding a factory lift(stock ride height) with whatever you have for a total number. So a 4in lift is just 4in not a total of 8in. Just my :2cents:

I was under the impression that the reason the Hiboys were so high from the factory was to clear the front suspension against the oil pan. thus requiring a 4" block out back to level it out.
the more knowledgable here can tell me I'm wrong if that is so! :-)

You're correct. There is a 4" block out back on my truck to keep it level with the front.

When I said a 2-3" lift, I meant over the stock highboy height. I've got the springs mocked up now and with the truck's weight on them, they end up being about 2" higher than the old stock springs. The truck looks a bit retarded now since the rear is still low. That's coming next.

Wes: I never knew the numbers of how many were made. Are there any numers of other types of trucks made that year? I'd be kindof curious how the highboys compare percentage wise.
