tires, wheels and leveling

Post by randyj68 »

Couple of questions.... was the original wheels 14 or 15 inch on the 68 4X2 f100? i'm also wanting to level my truck, wondering the easiest way to drop the rear a couple of inches to level it out. it is a longbed if that matters. Thanks in advance!

15" on F100's

The reason that the rear is higher is when you add a load to your truck, the rear springs will compress which then levels out the truck.

If you're NOT planning on putting a load in your truck, you could remove the bottom leaf spring from the pack. That should lower it by one or two inches.

Other than a trip to the dump, dont plan on hauling or puliing anything heavy.....removing thr bottom leaf sounds fairly easy, didnt know if it would effect the ride any

It will actually ride smother without the overload spring in it.

my 68 rides better without the overload spring under it. i may put them back under the truck someday though. if i ever get the truck back home. the overload spring is the flat spring. not a curved one.

FYI - I just took out my overload leaf on my '69 F100 yesterday and it dropped the rear end 3/4".

:yt: For the most part, it will only drop it the actual thickness of the leaf itself...maybe another 1/4" or 1/2" depending on how fatigued your leaves are.
