1976 steering collumn to 1971
Ok so I know that these columns will interchange physically, but what I dont know is the different wiring. Any one out there done this (I'm sure) and if so could you repost with the wiring changes ie. colors to colors. Gonna try and do this tomorrow afternoon and would like to have blinkers and brakes before the sun goes down. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

you may have to go over to fordification.net and look at those wiring diagrams. i know rejeweks posted a color wire thing in electrical section here a few years ago. and i think a few others have also posted soemthings about the dentside wiring too. i could find it. i didnt look very hard though. i just typed in dentside wiring. that got me nothing.

Have you tried using the same wiring from your 71 and installing in the 67 column? That's what I did when converting to PS. I had to change the column but simply installed the same wiring from my truck into the new column. This way you KNOW it works.

the connector from a dent is a different shape than the `70-`72 connector (69 and earlier uses a a 2-piece) but I believe the wires are the same. Just match color for color.
From the tech and tutorials section:
You can also use a readily-available PS column from a '73-'79 pickup. The physical dimensions are the same as the '69-'72 PS versions...just keep in mind that the wiring connection for the horn, turn signals, etc. will be different, and will require some minor rewiring to get hooked up. Most of the wires are the same color, allowing an almost quick and painless swap. Turn signal switches from various years can be interchanged by substituting the pin positions in the harness connector.

Re: 1976 steering collumn to 1971
I just put a column together and tried to use the signal switch from a 67-72 column in a 1976 column, and it WILL NOT WORK. The three screw holes that hold it in place do not line up. It seemed as though when I put the 76 column back together there was an external snap ring that butted up against the bottom of that switch holding the steering shaft inplace, and the switch in turn had an integral steel ring. The column I used was also one which did not contain a lower bearing, just a plastic bushing. There may be a bearing in the bottom of your particular column, but the column I have is from a 1976 F100 with power steering and auto trans.390Nut wrote: Turn signal switches from various years can be interchanged by substituting the pin positions in the harness connector.[/b][/i]
