steering stabilizer mounting

Post by blumule »

Hey everybody. Ive got a 69 f100 twin i beam 2 wheel drive. at higher speeds my steering seems a little loose and was thinking of a stabilizer.Ive already replaced the shocks and other bushings, i just dont think these dinosaurs were meant for speed.Anyway i cant determine where it would mount.Did they come on any of these trucks in the past ? Im sure its got to mount to the drag link on one end but where on the other?Any help appreciated.

the stabilizer you are talking about mounts between the drag link and the radius arm. it is basically a shock that bolts on. it is clamped to the drag link and then a hole is drilled through the radius arm to mount the other end of the shock. my 67 has one on it. here is aol debay picture i saved from a few years ago.

One bracket mounts to the drag link and the other mounts to the radius arm. 15 minutes tops to mount it with no directions! :)

I'm sure you can mount them on either side.

thanks, a pic would help although im sure a diagram will be included with damper. From the look of it , it seems it would be an easier mount from pass side with the longer drag link. whats the shorter link called? trailing arm?

a trailing arm is another word used to describe radius arms. i think the short rod is called the tie bar.

I had one on my 65 CS, It helped with the manual steering. I would think about any parts store would have one, or could order you one.
