Brake boosters! Too many choices...

Post by thorn1968 »

Well it's been a while since I've posted on the forum. I've finally decided to do something about my brakes. The front disks have been dragging, and locking for several years now. We only drive it short distances, 3 to 5 miles at at at time, so it hasn't bee too much of a problem. I've gotten the rotors cherry red a few times  so I picked up some rebuilt calipers, and will be repacking the inner an outer bearings and replacing the grease seals. I should probably check the run out on them too. Any way...my power booster started hissing when applying the brakes, so it needs replaced, and I might as well replace the master, as I believe it to be the root of the locking front brakes. So I got everything and when I crawled up under the dash I have an adjustable, long rod, from the pedal to the booster. The replacement booster has a short non adjustable rod for the pedal. Now I'm confused. Should I have ordered a drum brake booster? The existing booster is mounted on a couple of brackets spacing it away from the firewall a few inches. Can I mount replacement booster directly to the firewall? Will the short rod reach the pedal that way? Oh yeah...I ordered all the parts for a '73, and I'm trying to get it to fit on my '69. I'm planning on replacing the hard and rubber lines as well.

order your booster for the 69 it will bolt right up. boosters really have no aafect on disc or drum as far as fittign your truck. unless you have a 67. then you need a different booster.
