Plan to get some dream beams eventually but in the mean time

Post by chriso »

Like the title says I plan on getting some dropped i beams for my 70 f100. For the time being I want to lower the truck a bit. I understand I can flip the u bolts and shackle to get a bit of drop in the back and maybe remove some leafs, I'm wondering how much can be achieved? Also what kind of shocks would I need to use if I went this route? I also have read on here that cutting the coils is generally a bad idea because of cambering problems? Is there a safe amount to cut to possibly lower the front and not have camber problems? I will be getting some dropped i beams but thats some time down the line for now I just want the truck a bit lower without breaking the bank if at all possible.

From researching around on the site it seems that you can cut the coils as long as you get the ibeams bent to have the proper camber. Also there is a mention of lowering springs but I cant find any on the net and have not heard of people using them on here yet. Also the rear I understand has quite a few options. I don't want to c notch the frame so I'm thinking the axle flip and c notch is out of the question. Other options are having the springs rearched and maybe moving the shackle mounts? Any other suggestions?

Save your effort and coin until you have the money to complete the desired goal. I know it's hard, in this day of instant gratification.
Trust me, you'll be happier you waited, once you complete the task to your desired results.

What im really failing to see is the reason to go with dropped i beams over cutting coils and bending beams to get correct camber? I guess what I'm saying is what makes drop beams worth it if you cut the cols and have correct camber? Just looking for some answers on this since I'm finding a bunch of different things online.

now I'm second guessing even getting dream beams for the price if like said you cut coils and bend beams correct.

if you only want to drop the front a couple inches, then you dont need to buy drop beams. you can get 1-2 inchs just by cutting your coils and bending your stock beams. if you want more then 2 inches you will have to buy beams, otherwise your truck will be sitting on the bumpstops or the frame.
