put the swb bed on your lwb frame. center it up so the wheels are in the right place inside of the wheel wells. measure the distance between the cab and bed. also note the differece in the wheel base of the short beds and long beds. 131 vs 115 i think. 16 inches if those figures are correct.

I'm about to do this with My spare f100 frame that i restored. I want to build it into a full race rig.
I also want to do it to my f250 race truck. Doesn't seem hard at all.

It would be interesting to see how you did it.
Did you cut it in a diagonal so you're not just going straight down the frame? Plate both sides?

You will need to "fishplate" the joint section where it was cut. If you are not familiar with fishplating, you can Google it or go to the Miller welding forum ( http://www.millerwelds.com/resources/co ... es/mboard/ ) and search there.
If you do not reinforce that diagonal weld you may very well wind up with a two-piece truck.

No need to plate both sides
Just get your self a 2 foot piece of C channel either 6 or 8 inch and weld it inside of the frame rail

You will not bend the frame trust me I regularly haul a 15K trailer with a stretched dually and have never had a problem

With the C channel on the inside of the frame it cleans up the look of the frame rail

Oh ok. Well today (before i read all this lol) i actually took the frame pieces i cut out, split the down the middle long ways, and wrapped them around the frame and welded it like so. I also cut the bed down also, ill post pics later.
