So i just got my 71. Its a 2wd F100, manual drum brakes at all four corners, 9 inch rear, stock height for now, sway bars.
If i wanted to start converting over to disk brakes, (was thinking converting the 9 inch over and then swaping the front with a CV front end), could i keep it manual, and if so could i still use that master cylinder or should i upgrade it, and if so to what??? Will a mustang one fit/work? are there any favorite 9 inch disk conversion kits out there? If i were to convert it would it be easier to go with hydroboost or vaccum?
Also, was wondering if anyone know what size back spacing i should look at for the rear, i am going to run a wider tire (and probably taller) then is there currently. Would like to go pretty wide so was looking at 10 inch wide rims.
Any help is appreciated, thanks

Re: a few questions?
That would bum me out to. I know the CV is wider, but at the ease and price, i dont really mind. A little wider and lower will probably help the truck track better anyway. HP goal is 600+ (the motor im building should hit that mark with ease)
And since its a 71 i should assume its a small bearing 28 spline 9 inch? right?

Re: a few questions?
power vs manual brakes is only the difference in how power is used to get power brakes. hydroboost or vaccum booster.
if you use any other system for calipers and or size of wheel cylinders then the master cylinder you use should match the brake system you use. not nessisarily power. but why not.

Re: a few questions?
I was just thinking that if you could use the rear-end from the donor you would have a good match right off the bat. I dont know if I would trust that little 8.8 with that much power although a lot of folks do and have.
I beleive you are correct about the third member.

Re: a few questions?
Congradtz on the 71, I have a 3/72 which is only 1 yr off from my Birthday. Anyway, You can do a lot more with a wheel that you have control over the offset and use spacers to tweek or compensate for just that little bit more at times. I'm fortunate to have a few connections still so I will be actually having a particular rim style I want with the offset I want for my bolt pattern. and there are a few wheel companies that will do that for you per your specifications and needs.tcruarceri wrote:Also, was wondering if anyone know what size back spacing i should look at for the rear, i am going to run a wider tire (and probably taller) then is there currently.
