1968 f100 alignment

Post by rodriguezfords »

i have a1968 f100 and i noticed that the tires are slanted inward from the bottom. to the point the the outer tread on my front tires is almost gone. if you look at the truck from the front they look like \/. i have not messed with it but need to do so ASAP. i lifted the truck and tires did not move that much but was wondering how can i align them or is that something that i have to go to a shop.

you will need to take it to a shop to have the alignment fixed. just a word of advice make sure you research the shop alot of shops around here have no idea how to do the alignments b/c it is done by adjusting the ibeams

Ya ask the shop if they know what "cold bending I-beams" mean. If they don't just keep on looking for another shop. Out of about 8 shops here in Provo, UT I found 2 suspension shops that actually knew what I was talking about and only one of those two had equipment to do the job. FYI cost $150.

Almost every old ford I've ever seen has the "V" front end. Just one of the issues that comes with twin I-beams.

Raising the truck caused this. it's a characteristic of the I-beam that as the suspension goes UP, the tires tilt out at the top.. otherwise known as "positive" camber.

Every Ford you have seen has had either a bad alignment or no alignment then or wore out front springs.
My front tires sit right and I have 460 sitting under the hood.
When looking for a good alignment shop for our trucks look for a heavy equipment shop. One that at least works on straight trucks if not tractor trailers. They know how to cold bend I-beams.

That's true! My front end sits straight too with it's 428. Most folks don't understand how to fix camber with these twin i-beams. They look for some sort of adjustment mechanism and once they can't find it they give up!
