I've got a 4X4 with the 24JC06 manual steering box. I'm on at least the third steering box that's been in the pickup. The one I pulled out had junkyard marks on it, and I got this last one at a junkyard as well.
The steering got really hard, the column started to squall, and then the box got way loose. I've been under it, greased the front end and replaced a polyurethane bushing that was wore out (which made it steer harder) After finding out you have to pay $400 to have a 24JC06 rebuilt I bought one at the junkyard. It's clearances were good, it moved easy... in all was good.
Now it's starting to steer hard, but only to the right. I've checked the oil in it, and it's not leaking. There is a component in my steering I don't recognize, but I don't know if it's responsible.
Any idea why my rig would eat steering boxes? *edit* Any idea where to drill the steering column to install a zerk?
What is up with my farchadat steering?!??!

wasn't aware they had an actual bearing.. figured a brass or bronze bushing. Guess I'll see about replacing it. doubt it solves the prob.
