Brakes or kind of lack there of.

Post by cbfomoco »

Ever since I have gotten my 68 F350 the brakes have not been quite right. I do know that unloaded the brakes should grab and hold/ slow me down better than they do. I replaced all components on the rear end Wheel cyls, Lines, shoes, hardware, etc. I have also replaced the front rubber lines to the calipers. ( This one has the factory power disk brake set up) After bleading numerious times and a new master cyl and bleading them again I still just have so so brakes that I just dont think are totally working right. I have also noticed that the brake light on the dash is unhooked. Is it possible that there is an adjustment on the distribution block that I am missing? ( as it seems like the front kind of grab and the rear not much at all) The only thing I have not replaced is the front calipers which look fairly new, all the lines- hard, and the booster. I am kind of at a lose here. I dont mind to replace parts and spend the time and money on them if they will fix it but I feel like now anything that I change is just a shot in the dark. Thanks

If you pump the pedal quickly three times, do you get better pressure/stiffer pedal?
If so, you either still have air somewhere, or your rear shoes are WAY out of Adj.
I am not real familiar with the factory front disc set-up, my DRW has 4 drums 8) .
I assume you get good fluid pressure from all the bleeder screws when bleeding? If not, you have have a restriction somewhere.

I'm not sure who you got the master cylinder from. I have had three rebuilts in the last 6 months fail the bench bleeding test. The quality of some things has really gone to hell.

Best of luck with your brakes. I don't know anything about the propo valve your truck would have. It could be out of center, causing low pressure feed to the front. However i do not know how to test for that.
