1970 Ford Ranger XLT Aftermarket Rims and Tire Sizes???
Hi guys, im a new member to the site and thought i ask a question that i have been longing for an answer too. I have a 1970 Ford Ranger XLT Shortbed, it is in pretty good shape but like all old cars and trucks it has its problems. I have been lokking into getting new rims and tires for it but it has been a very exhausting task. There is a small amount of companies that make wheels for the 5x139.7(5x5.5). I finally found rims that i can be happy with, 18x9 Cragar S/S 610 series all the way around. Due to the fact they dont make a bunch of different sizes/offsets/backspaces, i want to go go with a little bigger tires in the back for that agressive stance. Im not worried about the performance of it because its not a sports car. Im looking at 245/45/18 for the front but im not sure if thats too small because i want the low pofile look. If there is a problem with the size of this tire i would not know what number to change to make it better. I would also like to know what number(s) to change to make the back tires aliitle bit bigger than the front, not to big but big enough to notice. If anyone has any experence with this sort of thing or just really knows what they are talking about, helping me find the right set of tires would be great thanks. Keep On Truckin.

I don't have any experience with 18'' rims and tires but there are all kinds of tire size calculators on the internet that give you a good idea how tall and wide a particular tire is. Even though it won't show you how they will look on your truck but you can compare them to what you have or to what was stock on the truck. Here is a couple that I've used. http://www.1010tires.com/tiresizecalculator.asp

One thing to consider if you're getting is that these trucks have a narrower track-width in the rear. (by about 4'') I don't know if it bothers you but I think its ugly. If you wanted to compensate for that one option would be to get wider wheels for the rear (you mentioned that you like that aggressive look) or the same width rims all around just get more on an offset for the rear (assuming they are available) and still put some taller/wider tires on those rims.
