Adding power assist to the brakes?

Post by Carl »

Currently have manual brakes on my 70 F-100 4x2. Thinking about installing a new master with power booster like this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 0402206878

Have any of you guys installed one of these units?
Did it make much of a difference?
Is this a good price/source?
Would this be a good starting point for an eventual disc brake conversion?

Check out Seattle67's excellent tutorial on the subject ....

Also, a 'heads up' that the 67's are slightly different to the 68,69,70, 71 and 72 models.

I just finished installing PB in my 69 F-250 with drums. I bought the complete booster and master cylinder from National Parts Depot. I already sourced the brackets so the install was pretty straight forward. The price from NPD was $153. You can find the brackets on ebay all the time. These simply bolt to the booster and the 4 holes on the firewall.

Be sure to get the adjustable brake rod so that you can adjust the travel for brake pedal position.

What a difference, even with drum brakes. It's easy and in my opinion, well worth the investment.

that price is out of line. you can get the master and boster for a little over 100.00 at the parts store. but you will still need the mounting brackets. they arent worth the extra money he is asking for just adding the brackets for you. brackets go for around 30.00 and or or up from that but not that much more.
