CV swap & power steering?...

Post by marvin2 »

I am looking at doing the crown vic swap and running my original 302. Trying to figure out power steering at the moment.

Does anyone know if the power steering pump / reservoir assemblies from 5.0 foxbody mustang would work with the CV rack and pinion? I am completely lost on some of this, but in theory...any power steering pump / reservoir could work with any rack & pinion so long as they were plumbed correctly and the pump pushes enough fluid...right???

Does anyone know if a 5.0 foxbody mustang power steering pump / reservoir assembly will bolt to my motor?

I am going to run a cv pump on mine. The main reason being shouldn't need any custom power steering hoses made. As far as a mustang pump I'm not sure. You may want to call ford or maybe a parts house and see if they can tell you what the psi out put of the mustang pump vs the cv pump. You want the psi as close to the cv pump as possible. You don't want to starve the rack of fluid. Hope this helps.

So are you just making a custom braket to mount the CV pump to your block? What about the pulley....does it need to be changed out to my original pulley, so that it matches the rest of the accessory pullies?

That's pretty much it. If you look at jgf100's build that's what he did. Turned out nice.
