I finished with my E-brake cable replacement (finally)
My question is, with all new shoes and drums out back and new cables the threaded rod that is attached to the equalizer bar is a hair too short.
So I went down to Lowes and got a 6" bolt and a 8" bolt. The 6" was a hair too short and the 8" is a half inch too long.
I made a spacer out of two nuts with a larger inside diameter of the bolt, and then used a flat washer and lock washer followed by a nut to take up the slack in the link lines.
If I could find a 7" bolt that would work nicely.
See pic.
Is this going to work?

Should work pretty good. You could also get the appropriate die and add more threads to the 8" bolt.
On mine, I used an old clutch linkage pivot and a section of all thread for that connection.

Yea. The threaded part needs to be longer.

Looks like it would work great to me.
But what do i know, i tore my e-brake out of the truck
Why not try it? I'm guessing you don't have everything together yet?

The cables I got are what NPD had listed for a long bed 1972 F100.fordman wrote:why does it need to be longer. did you get the wrong lenght cables?
Like the threaded rod needs to be a 1/4 of a inch longer. The end of the threads were even with the cable bracket.
Ryan, it seems like it will work. Its just that I cant move the truck to a hill to test it out.

you can do a test that will show if it works or not just by putting it in neutral and pushing. But to test how well it can hold itself you'll need a hillOldRedFord wrote:Ryan, it seems like it will work.
