Wide tires... do you think they will fit?

Post by mrtleavitt »

Hey guys, I'm looking to buy new tires for the truck and would like your opinions. I have a stock height '69 F100 swb 2wd. I swapped frames with a '74 F100 so my rear axle is 2 inches wider on each side compared to the original bump setup. I am currently running 31x10.5x15 with no offset. I've had 32x11.5x15 before and they rubbed a bit on the radius arms when turning. The new 428 likes to spin tires so I'd like to go as wide as possible for the extra traction. So what do you guys think? I will not go with any offset, just a standard rim.

1. I'd like to go with 275/70/R16 which are equal in straight conversion of something like 31.2" tall 10.83 wide. (I realize all tires aren't exactly the same height as it says on the sidewall)

2. Or should I just be safe and go with 265/70/R16. These are just a bit smaller than my current 31's but like I said, I would like to go wider and not narrower.

Thanks in advance guys.
