Disc Brake conversion help!

Hey guys,
Soon Im going to be buying a 73-77 donor truck so i can convert mine to disc.
I just have a few questions..
1-When I swap over the front brakes/susp. setup can I use the brake pedal setup that's already in it? If not what do I have to do to the 73-77 one to make it fit??
2- How hard is it too hook up all the brake lines?

cheek,

when i did this same swap, my doner truck was a 78 and my bump is a 68. my 68 pedal assembly worked just fine. i took all the lines off the 78 and used them, their bends fit my truck perfectly. you do need the brake line bracket of the doner trucks frame to secure the hard-lines properly to your frame though. :thup:

you wont need the pedal assembly for any reason. hooking up the brake lines is a matter of puttign the brake line hos ebrackets on the frame and installign the proportioning valve into the brake lines system.

so could you buy a stainless steel brake line kit from lmc and use that on the front and rear brakes or are are the dentside rear brakes diffrent?

the rear axle maybe a bit wider. so the lines may be a slight longer.

I did the complete transfer from a 73 to a 68 including the C6, PS, PB. My 68 had column 3-speed with manual everything. I had to bend new lines to the front calipers because however I tried to mix and match I couldn't get the fronts to match up. The proportioning valve for discs is twice if not three times as long as the block for drums. You can work with the line coming from the master because it has coils but I couldn't mix and match enough to get them all to match up without having to bend some new ones to the front calipers. Plan on taking all the brake lines from the dent back to the connection on the rear rail. You may be able to mix and match but I wasn't. Too many funky bends to the front calipers and they just don't make it. It was fun learning to bend new lines :cry: .
The pedal could not be used in my situation. I tried to use the PB setup with the wide dent pedal but the bump attachment site for the pedal is different so it felt like you had no brakes for the first inch or two. Remember I had the clutch pedal setup so I had to go to a junkyard and get the auto pedal from a 68. Ten years ago that was not a problem. Today, not so sure.

Make sure you do the Kingpins! Remember the front coil springs can be different depending on accessories(front end weight) and such. Keith may be able to chime in here. I think there is a difference in coils from the 67-72 and 73 and up do to weight up front.

The difference will be incredible.
