Drum to Disk in Rear
I was thinking about converting my rear brakes to disk (front already are). I've found conversion kits for many other trucks but nothing for my '72 250. Has anyone done this?

Re: Drum to Disk in Rear
Sure, there are kits to put rear discs on, but IMO it's a waste of money for what you'd get out of it. A daily driver (or even a hot street truck) has no need for them. Rear drums and front discs will stop just as fast, and truth be told you'd probably never notice the difference....you aren't going to stop any faster with rear discs. Well, unless you balance the front-to-rear weight ratio a lot more than it is now, since a truck is so incredibly light in the back end, and run huge discs.
If you're simply trying to optimize your brakes and enhance them a bit, I'd suggest getting a 1-ton master cylinder and an adjustable proportioning valve, which will allow you to fine-tune the front-to-rear brake bias.
You'll be able to throw yourself through the windshield easily...but you'll be able to replace it with the money you saved!

Thanks. That does seem like a better solution.

Hello TheCyclone and Keith!
Keith, I didn't know about the F-350 master cylinder concept--that's interesting!
TheCyclone, Bill (FireGuyWTC) has installed a rear disc brakes on his 1967 F250. They look truly excellent! And because of the particular rear brakes he had, the cost of the disc brake conversion wasn't very much more than the cost of new drum brakes.
Here's Bill's project updates thread that shows some photos of his setup. You'll probably want to PM him for more detailed information.
