Exhaust Manifolds
Well joined site yesterday and have 1st disappointment and question. Installed new exhaust with flowmaster only to find out the right manifold is cracked. Are all stock exhaust manifolds on a 1971 390 2V the same from the factory or are there different configurations. Also are the kits from Dorman good ones? Lastly would appreciate any tips to save time on removal. there is already one snapped bolt.

Re: Exhaust Manifolds
don't have any experience with dorman i think
But as far as i remember all manifolds from the 352,360,and the 390 from our trucks are the same.
To save time ive heard of people soaking the bolts on the top down with PB blaster every day for a week then they either warm the engine up a bit or use a torch....(but using the torch be careful not to start something on fire) and then with a lot of luck they will come out.
When i rebuilt my 352 i had the same problem and i ended up snaping several of them.

I don't really care about brands Chevy Ford Dodge ...as long as it doesn't sound like two old dudes farting in a coffee can.

Re: Exhaust Manifolds
the passenger manifold is the same from way back possibly about 65 up to the end of production in our trucks. i think that is close to being right. the only differences is the choke tube holes in it. i think but i am not sure that the passenger side is also the same on car engines. but not the drivers side.
which dorman kit are you talking abotu? do you have a part number?
soaking the bolts for several day before removal is prefered.

Re: Exhaust Manifolds
-Dorman part # 674-240 for the right side and 674-241 for the left side. Supposed to come with all hardware also. Thanks for your interest. I cant tell if the right side manifold comes with the proper holes on it for the 2 lines that go in on top rear of manifold. Appreciate any help already started with the PB blaster.

Soak the PB for days before starting. Not really much else you can do. Turn the bolts back and forth as you are removing them. Good luck.
