Parking Brake Spring

Post by marvin2 »

I am looking for Ford Part #2A651. It is the return spring for the parking brake. Basically when you release the parking brake, this spring pulls the equalizer and releases the brake. I cannot find this part ANYWHERE!!

I replaced my parking brake cable yesterday and it works fairly well; however, when you release the brake it doesn't retract "fully." I am thinking that the equalizer spring is wornout and with a new spring, it should snap back quickly. There appears to be an adjustment nut on the equilizer bar that I am going to try to tighten as well.

it may be in the nut for tension. but i have some good used springs if you want them. or you could get one from a hardware store. you just need the correct length. also on the side of the pedal is a small spring that could be damaged or missing check that. soem of them had that spring and some didnt. i dont recall right now which years had them and which years had a different type. i think our years had the spring and the dentsides had a better design.

LMC Truck has them on page 115 of their online catalog for about $8.00
They list it for a short bed.... is there a difference for a long bed ?

Napa sells one that is the correct length. It is on the floor with other springs and it works great for mine, over a year now and no problems. A spring is a spring if you have the right length and tension.
