Hi everyone,
Hey I'm looking for any help on how to identify the difference between the 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton and 1 ton. Is it only a difference in suspension or drivetrain also? I'm assuming it is both but don't know. Iam looking at a few trucks right now and own a 71 F-100, a 1/2 ton and am not familiar with 3/4 ton or 1 tons.
thanks for any help in clearing this up for me

frame thickness suspension and axles are the main differences. each is made stronger than the lower one. each i smade to hold up to larger loads on the truck and pulling with the truck. a 1 ton can be used to haul off shingles from your house. a 3/4 ton can be used for almost the same thing but not loaded down with quite so much. when looking at buying a heavier duty truck you have to ask what will i use it for how much weigh will i put on it.

Hey thanks Fordman and M-mmm,
My by site has been to look for eight lugnuts or five. Are 3/4 and 1 tons both eight lugs?
thanks

Yes farmer 13... 1/2 (F100) ton has 5 lugs, both 3/4 (F250) and 1tom (F350) have 8 lugs, but there is a big differance in looks in the wheels... so they are still easy to tell which one is which, by sight.
Bump F350's were mostly flatbeds, dumps, and box trucks (like Uhaul).
They had a budd style wheels, like big rigs, and almost always had duals on the back.
the F350 pickup didn't come out until later ('73 I think but not 100% positive on the year).
