Stangers site for steering/brakes info

Post by jzjames »

This has been mentioned but Id like to repeat that I have found out that you DONT use 90 wt. oil in the manual steering box. It just runs out past the seal, and then youre running with a dry steering box.
I replaced my steering box 6 or 7 years ago with a new one. I filled with 90 wt oil and noticed it was seeping out.
Then I found this site;

and found out you dont use 90 wt, but rather all purpose grease in the steering box. Stangers site tells how to correctly fill the steering box, and has alot of other good related info.
I finally got to opening the box today, and sure enough, the box is empty and starting to dry out. Filled it with grease
Since new steering boxes are somewhat expensive, I thought I would remind everyone not to ignore them.
Check them, they might be dry, and use grease.
