You guys have all been a great help to me being the biggest novice on the forums. Just had to say that first!
My '72 F250 4x4 has a problem. I've got 16" wheels on the front with 265/75r16s and the rear has 16.5" wheels with 33x12.50s. This worries me for when driving in four wheel drive since the hieghts are not a match.
Anyway I would like to put up to 35" tires on it. It is stock hieght.
I found a what I think is a deal on a set of Monster XD778. They are 8 lug and 18" diameter but he was unsure of the rest of the deminsions. I found them online here:

The 170 throws me off. Whats the deal? Is there a back spacing issue? I am really an idiot when it comes to all of this!
Surely the 18s will clear the drum brakes right?
170mm?

Re: 170mm?
I might be wrong, ROBT257 but I think the 170mm refers to the bolt pattern...
if so, then that would correspond with change to metric bolt pattern in '91 (I think that's the correct year) which means that it won't fit yer truck.

Re: 170mm?
Yeah I've been all over the place on this here internet thing. Looks like they switched a few years back.
Well hopefully the ones this guy has are 6.5s.
Any ideas about putting 18's on the truck?

Re: 170mm?
Personally, I really don't care for the looks of big rims and low profile tires on a classic truck...
But if the rim size is matched with a good sized tire it looks pretty good...
Since you have a 4x4, I'd go for the largest tire and wheel combination you can get and still have enough clearance that you don't cut up your tires...
I have seen that, way too many times...
I'd check with the company to see if they will fit the earlier lug pattern.

Re: 170mm?
Yeah the transfer case is what I'm worried about right now as the rear tires are almost a half inch taller and alot wider. I definately don't want to go smaller than the 33s. And can't find 33s for a 16" wheel for the front. Plenty of 35s out there for the 18" wheel and found the deal on the 18" rims. I was mostly worried about the fitment to the truck. I guess if the 16s and 16.5s fit around the drum brakes then the 18s should have plenty of clearance. Don't really care about the look. Wanting the taller tire for clearance and the wideness of the 12.50s for the wider foot to keep from sinking on the soft ground so much.
I guess the simple answer to my current problem is whether or not these wheels I'm looking at are 170s or 6.5s.

Your 170mm is definitely the bolt pattern. Try Discount Tire Direct for help in deciphering the metric vs. standard measurement.

33x12.50 will fit. 35's will rub a bit. Your best bet is 255/85/16. They're 33 inches tall. If you want bigger, you'll have to lift the truck.
