Can I put ball joints on my 67 F100?

Post by DCmirk »

Maybe this topic has been brought up previously, but I could not find it with the forum search tool. So here I go.
I have a 67 F100 all original. I purchased a 79 F100 front end with disc brakes at a salvage yard for $100. I contacted a machine shop to get the kingpins and bushings replaced and the guy said the front end might also need the I-beams to be bent for proper alignment. A machinist told me that he once knew someone that put a 1979 Ford front end on his 1985 Ford. The 1985 ford had a ball joint front end. He asked me this simple question:
"Why not get yourself an 80's model front end that has ball joints?"

So my question to everyone here is... Can I do that? will an 80's model front end with disc brakes and ball joints fit on my 67 F100?

Thanks Seattle67. After looking at your name and signature I will assume I know why you like my truck so much. Appears you have a red version of the same truck I have. My truck is original except for the newer Ford aluminum wheels and CD player I installed in the dash.

I am judging that the 79 I-beams will just slide in place of the 67 I-beams. Anyone know that this is correct? Or should I do as the Fordification converting to power disc brakes tutorial advices and replace everything with the 79 front end?

yes the 79 stuff will go right in. the only differences in the 79 to 67 stuff is basically the steering linkage connection tothe spindle arm. and if you use the 79 steering linkage then you will need the matching pitman arm. which means you need the power steerign saginaw box to use that pitman arm. unless you can get a manual steering arm to work with that setup.
