Is it possible to shorten the steering column on a truck with a stick shift?

yes. If it's for a PS conversion http://www.fordification.com/steering-column.htm.
If to shorten the interior portion, you could pretty much still go by that page with some thinking.

i wouldn't cut and reweld that shaft. i just don't trust doing that to that vital of a piece of steering equipment.

A professional welder should be able to weld the steering shaft together and it should perform safely if they did a good job.
Can you find a trustworthy welder?
If you let Fordman weld on your truck........

i could do it. but i still would never trust it. no matter how good of a weld. metal fatigue isn't something to shrug off. deep penetration of a weld is a very important part of welding. and that part isnt very thick. so it cant be real deep in that area. i also feel that it is much easier and simpler to just buy the correct column to do the job. even though i dont have any to sell. they can be found everywhere you look. local junkyards ebay craigslist kijji backpage postaroo.
