leaky saginaw power steering box rebuild
Ok, I've had about enough of a leaky Saginaw power steering box in my 68, what is required to replace seals, etc to stop this aggravation! Thx, Banjo.

A clean area, a few snap ring pliers, maybe a pic (dentist type tool), pitman arm puller. Along with normal wrenches and sockets. An inch pound torque wrench would be +. A service manual or specs, Be careful of the ball bearings inf the rack and worm gear assembly, I normally leave this assembly alone as much as possible. Only changing the input shaft seal, as I don't have the correct spanner wrench.

Thanks, I don't imagine they sell rebuilds for 68 Ford Saginaw power steering box do they? Thinking mine needs thorough going through and want to install new rag joint and pressure hose while apart?? Banjo.

If the box works well but just leaks, you can just reseal the steering shaft and the pitman arm shaft. I did my '72 without removing the box.

Yes, it works fine just leaks, have never messed with power steering box before, leary I'd screw up. Plus mine probably has 400K miles on it, so I thought they might have some additional checks/tolerance adjustments on the reman ones they sold. I have to admit, I'd rather not pull it unless I had to. I do have a pitman arm puller. I need to dig out my old Chiltons I guess and check for pix/procedures.
