Re: Adding a brake booster to my drum set up
I tried to put a booster on my '68 and it did not work out too well. I think the rod that goes into the master cylinder was too long for my truck. When I got it installed, the brakes were fully applied and would not let go. Other than that, just unbolt master cylinder from firewall, attach MC to booster, bolt booster to firewall, and hook up vacuum lines and the MC pushrod to brake pedal. Good luck.

Do i need mounting brakets to bolt the booster to the firewall or is that 67 only. I read all previous post on this install and mounting brackets kept coming up. I need clarification on whether i need a mounting bracket.
Thanks! Robbie.

Yea, come to think of it you do. One side of the brackets bolt to the booster and the other side of the brackets bolt to the firewall. Best I remember, the booster sits about 4 or 5 inches away from the firewall. I got my booster from a member here and it already had the brackets on it.

I bought the booster from autozone, haden't taken it out of the box, so i don't know if it has brackets or not. If not i need a set of brackets i guess.

Check the parts available or post in the parts wanted section. I bet somebody has them laying around and are willing to part with them.

The bracket you need will depend on the type of booster you have. If you have a dual chamber booster with the rod that attaches to the brake pedal has a female style thread you'll need a non cantilever bracket. the cantilever style bracket was used mostly on single chamber boosters with a short rod coming out of the booster. The rod going to your mc should have an adjustable tip.

Re: Adding a brake booster to my drum set up
Thanks for the offer kilog55 but i returned the booster and decided to leave it as is. After i changed the lines, adjusted and bleed the system, it will stand on it's nose now if you get on the pedal hard. Thats good enough for me.kilog55 wrote:i have brackets if you need a set had em on my 72 F100 before i sold it also got my booster from advance auto right now converting it to work on my 79 F250
