Drum Brake Distribution Block Plumbing Question

Post by FLATBEDFORD »

How should the brake lines go through the distribution block? I'm having trouble resetting/re centering mine.
Mine is like this now. As if seen from under the truck, looking from the passenger to the driver's side. To the right is to the front of the truck.

Or I'll use this picture. (Thanks, Fordman for the extra part)
Image
1. Front. out to front wheel
2. Front, in from Master Cylinder
3. Rear, in from MC
4. Rear, out to axle
5. Front, out to front wheel

When I got the part from Fordman it had a plug on port 1.

This, and the fact that the lines out of the MC were switched, leads me to believe that my truck has been plumbed wrong sometime in the last 38 years. Maybe this is why I can't reset the darn valve? I'm thinking that it should be like this.
1. Capped
2. Front in
3. Rear in
4. Rear out
5. front out with a T to feed each side.

Can one of you guys climb under your truck and check for me? Or maybe somebody just knows?
Thanks
Steve

i think that is correct on how i took it off. this came off of a f250 with dic brakes. the tee was some sort of pre porportioning type of deal i think. i am talking about the last line confiruation you typed in.

on a f100 the first line configureation is correct for a f100. the capped one goes to the passenger front the bottom left goes to the left front. the top left goes to the rear the other two go to the master cylinder.

Are you sure? The bottom ones should be rear. Top front. You can't mix top and bottom, can you?

Your top drawing coould be correct... it depends on the on the Block... and if that plug is set up as a port or the access for the guts inside...
I'm guessing the way that one is set up is to use a "Tee" after the block...
You can Not mix the top and bottom... The bottom is for the Back brakes only, and the top is for the Front brakes only...

Here is some good info for you on how these work and are assembled...

This one is for an import but basic info is good!

I spent a few hours messing with it today. I got both of them apart and working nicely. I found out two things. The distribution block is not the problem, and that the reason I could never reset the darn thing was that the switch was bad. I manually reset one of them and installed it with the switch from the one Fordman gave me and the light stays off.
I guess the drums come off the next time a have a few hours and its not raining, snowing, or too damn cold to work outside.
