Frame Swap Q's on f100

Post by stockr »

hey fellaz..i just aquired a a 72 swb f1oo..
i have been doing my research i would like to upgrade to crown vic suspension..

so far i like the 03-07 front cross member swap..

but i was wondering how hard it would be to put the body of my truck on a 88 crown vic frame..
since one of my buddy has one that he is willing to donate to me as long as i get it out of his yard pretty soon.,.:)

what do you guys think?
is it worth my time with the whole frame...or just drop in the front clip from a 03-07..

i just want something that has good ride and lowerd look...

thanks in advance... :woohoo:

Yeah, I did the swap but it was a lot of work. The front cab mounts were pretty close, all I had to do was wallow out the holes a little. The rear cab mounts I had to make with a new crossmember. The bed was actually worse, I had to make a new crossmember for the front of the bed, and cut and reverse the frame behind the wheels and make a new crossmember there too. The engine wasn't that hard to hook up but I used the steering wheel from the vic and it was a headache to get lined up. I used the brake pedal and the throttle from the car too but since I used the vic's brake booster it wasn't that hard either. I did have to bend the throttle pedals arm to get it off the floor enough for good use. I used all the wiring from the car also. I sold the truck before I got it running right because I had to move but it was pretty much there, If I had it to do over, I would have done the 03-07 crossmember swap and used the cv engine that way. a LOT less work and time to go into it. You say you have an 88 so that means it's a 302 engine I'm guessing, that's a good swap in there anyway. That's all I can think of now, if you have any more questions, let me know.

Check with your local DMV and make sure you get all the paperwork in order BEFORE you start the swap. Some states will not let you do anything like this without a lot of hassle!

i would think if you are going to just cut on front end off and weld another one on. that the mounts should be in place on the donor clip. wouldn't they?

the x member he's wanting to use comes from a 03 and up crown vic and they all had the mod 4.6 motor. he's wanting to know if he'll have to fab mounts to run a 302.
