3 on tree/PS?

Post by dmichel123 »

Can parts(shifter tube, steering shaft) from an automatic p/s column and a 3 spd m/s column be interchanged/modified to make a 3 on tree/PS column???

there are two things you willneed to make that rebuild happen. you will need the correct size inner shaft and the power steering offset shift arms from another column. i dont think you can buy them new. the rest of a manual column will work for power steering . the other way to go is to get a bendix power steering box. and then you can probably use your old manual column with that.

I want to see a picture of the power steering offset shift arms still in the original application on a bump.

hawkrod has posted a pic for that twice. in both of the threads you have asked to see them. they look very similar to a automatic shift arm. but the second one is shorter than the bottom one.

That is a common misunderstanding. The Bendix box equipped trucks used a different length column than the manual trucks. In other words, there are 3 different columns for the 4x2 trucks. Hawkrod Posted part numbers with measurements at one time.

Willyboy3 fordman is correct. They look just like the shift arm from an automatic except one is shorter. They are not available from any source i know of. My $800 3 speed ps column came from cali. Don't know where they got them from, but after much adjusting and bending of shift arms and rods it works great. ( I know i got $crewed).

yea i read that post where he showed the pics and was talkign about them. he was saying the difference in the power bendix and manual column was 3/4 inch in length. i woudl think the 3/4 length could be adjudted in the dash bolt area where the column has slots to bolt to the dash. . it might not work but i might. if it brings the column up to close to the firewall then it won't work for sure. the shift arms would be hitting the firewall. we are on the same page here.
