Pic request - suspension
Can anybody provideme with pics of a 1968 Ford F100 front suspension with the sheetmetal off the truck. I am looking for pictures with different views, angles, distances so that I can look at the suspension, figure out out how works, and figure out how I am gonna get the truck lower to the ground. Thanks guys!

03rangerxlt,
are you looking to modify factory components to lower it versus buying aftermarket parts ? sorry, i do have pics with the front clip off but none that offer good viewing angels at the front suspension.

Thank you! I am most likely going to order drop beams for my '68. But I don't think thats going to be low enough. I want to stick with a static drop that will get me this look: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-Tru ... 240%3A1318

03rangerxlt,
here's a pic of my 68 with the 3'' djm's and one round out of the coils, its just about all your going to get out of the beams without a whole lot of negative camber.

I like the stance. What size wheels are you rolling. If I were to do that with a 15" steel rim and a stock size-ish tire, would I still be able to achieve that stance? How is your alignment? Do you have bad tire wear?td wrote:03rangerxlt,

Re: Pic Request - Suspension
o3rangerxlt,
my wheels are 20''s, but the overall height of the wheel and tire together is about 27.5 tall and thats the same height as the steal wheels and tires i had on it in this pic so this would be the look you'd have, but it'd be alot sweeter with some 10'' wide steelies in the rear with some big fat tires on them
i do have a little neg. camber now so i know my front tire life is shortened, i don't have enough miles on them now to know just how much premature wear to exspect but it will be worth having the truck sit the way i want it to however the wear.

Hmmm. I like the stance of yours, and the 20's make it look much lower. But with the 15's, it doesn't look as low. I was hoping some creative cutting and welding would get me where I wanted. After looking at the pics, not so much. I guess I will go with the drop beams, cut one coil, and see how she sits. Maybe my suspension is tired enough to sag where I want it. LOL The rear suspension is going to be fun too. one of the bands is missing off the leaf springs, and she is sagging low.

Re: Pic Request - Suspension
i must not miss the chance to show pearl
the first pic it has the stock steel wheels on the front (15x5.5) and am15x8 or 9 on the back tall tires all the way around.
the second pic it has the wheel vintique 15x8 all 4 with shorter tires.
the tall tires look good but it does not sit low enuff for me. the short tires sit good but dont fill the wheel wells like the biggens do
the truck has djm stuff front and rear.

you got me thinking about this (other way to lower)
shelby lowered his cars by rasing the a-arms a inch!!
so can we raise the spring perch or the thingy that the spring sits under that is attached to the frame.
does this make sence???

moving the spring tower up would essentially be the same as cutting the springs or using lowering springs. you would still run into negative camber issues because you cant raise the attachment point of the other end of the i-beam.

Re: Pic Request - Suspension
I was wondering, could the i-beam be cut and have some stock welded in to push the wheel hubs higher up?

Re: Pic Request - Suspension
well lets ask the obvious then.
why does the beam only come in 3'' drop.
all the beams ford or chebby, i have only seen 3'' dropwhy dont they have a choice of 3'' or 6'' kind like a lift kit!
there is a 3'', 6'' and 8'' lift kits.
i want more choices

good point Brad, i cant think of any reason that wouldn't work and now that you mention it, seems like some of the one's i've seen adds for in the truckin mags do appear to have more drop built into them.427blackpearl wrote:well lets ask the obvious then.
