Any opinions on which shock absorbers are best for an F250?
Good evening,
Any opinions on which shock absorbers are best for the front of my 8,100lb GVW F250?
The ride's already pretty stiff so I suppose I'm more interested in handling and build quality than I am in ride quality, but I'm curious to hear all suggestions.
I know on sports cars people pay a lot of attention to different shocks and I'm not sure if that's the case with Bumpsides or not.
Thanks very much!

are you going to use your f250 for towing and hauling? if your not going to do heavy hauling/towing then i would remove a couple leaves from your packs. i did this on the 71 and it is definately noticable different.

Hi KaptnKA
S, Ryan, and My427stang, thanks for the replies!
KaptnKA
S and My427stang, good to know about the Monroe Gas Magnums, thanks! I wouldn't have had any idea at all so this is really helpful.
Ryan, thanks for the advice on the rear springs. I do plan on doing some hauling in the F250 from time to time, and I don't mind putting up with a stiff ride the rest of the time.
That's interesting that you removed some leaves from your springs and it worked out well though! Awesome.
Thanks again,
-Robroy

I have also had good luck with Monroe Magnums. I think a lot of people don't realize how much good front shocks can improve the handling and driveability on these twin I-beam trucks. This front end seems to beat up shocks. In the 15 years I had my '71 it went through several sets. The first part I bought for my '69 when I got it was a set of shocks.

I received the shocks but I'm not certain they're the right ones. Here they are:

Notice how there's no boot or sleeve or anything covering the piston rod? Is that really supposed to be exposed like that?
Thanks!

Interesting. I wouldn't think its not a huge deal since a lot of desert-racing trucks leave their rod's exposed to the dust/mud. But Rubiranch's shocks did have a cover.

Yes they're supposed to be like that. My 68 and 72 are just like that. It won't hurt anything since they'll be moving in and out as you drive.

For a 100-150 I just use the Blue Monroes.
If you want a litle more performance and a little beter load control (like on a 250) hen go with the Yellow Monroes.
The edelbrocks and bilstiens are awsome, but I can not justify the price on a 40+ year old truck.

Just in case anyone was looking for them. I have a set of duel shock mounts for the front of our trucks for sale.
they are brackets that clamp around the i-beam and use the second hole in the spring pertch. Realy nice if you are towing a lot or if you have a bed camper.
