I was just wondering. Is there a difference between Big block and small block front springs. I was wondeing, because I am getting ready to convert my 72 to disc brakes. I am going to do a coil cut, even though I know thats not the proper or best lowering solution. I want to have a set of coils cut and waiting for my swap. The truck the fron axles, etc came out of was a 77 460 long bed. My 72 is a 302 shortbed. I think the front coils are different, but I want to be sure. Also, would a long bed 70 with a 302 have the springs I need,or are they heavier due to a long bed truck?
Thanks,

re: Spring questions
I think that Ford probably used different springs depending on both the engine and the GVWR rating on the truck.
If you cut a coil from the front it will be significantly lower and your alignment will be WAY off. It will handle poorly and the tires will wear out. There will also be a noticeable tilt to the wheels. On many cars, cutting a coil will work OK to lower it, but on I-Beam trucks it's a big NO-NO...JMO

re: Spring questions
that wheel "tilt" is referred to as camber--just a polite fyi

re: Spring questions
I know all the cons, but I'll deal to lower it for now. It can't wear tires much worse than now! Current wear is horrible. Thanks for the advice. Anyone know a definate answer about whether there is a difference in the springs?

re: Spring questions
im guessing that the big block springs would be a little heavier spring, just me guessing though, and as far as cutting the spring i wouldn't say its a no no you just can't take off to much. if your using stock i beam they can be used to correct negative camber that would be created from the coil cut. i'd say 1 to 1.5 rounds cut max.
